Since the premiere of 12 years a slave, Lupita Nyong’o has become a household name from Hollywood to Kenya. When I look back at all the photos have seen of her on the red carpet and fashion spreads, I cant help but think we Kenyan ladies need to take notes.
Lesson No. 1: You don’t need a weave to be beautiful
Yes many of us are weave -holics, many at times if I wear my natural hair someone will ask me, “What’s up, you didn’t get time to go the salon?” ..I don’t know how many times have heard some one say “I cant dare walk around in my natural hair” well, take note: Lupita Nyong’o is on the red carpet and yes she looks beautiful with the short Natural hair!!
Lesson No. 2: You don’t need ‘carolight’ black is beautiful
I don’t know how many inboxes I receive on my facebook “What can I apply to make my face lighter?” If you didn’t get it from me then get it from Lupita, black is beautiful so ditch that ‘carolight’ and embrace your black beauty
Lesson No. 3: Less is More
You don’t need that excess make up you wear. Keep it simple, keep it beautiful
Lesson No. 4 : Be confident in your own skin
Be who you are, be you and be confident in that. Don’t try to be a second version of someone else
Lesson No. 5 : There is no dream that’s too big
I am sure if Lupita would have told someone while in Kenya, one day I’m going to be a star in Hollywood they would have laughed but look at where is she. So keep dreaming and work hard. Let no one belittle your dreams
Here is to Lupita, you go girl! Thanks for putting Kenya in the map and yes we are looking forward to more fashion spreads as well
